Moonstruck

Moonstruck

Let your light so shine before men,
that they may see your good works
and glorify your Father in heaven
(Matthew 5:16 NKJV)

The moon, that beautiful glowing orb in the night sky, has so many romantic connotations such as moonlit beaches and lovers strolling hand in hand. A friendly smiling orb that cute cows sometimes jump over. But the moon is not the moon of children’s fables. Instead, it is a dark, pitted hunk of rock hanging in space with no ability whatsoever to generate light. The light we see that appears to come from it, is actually light reflected from the sun.

The astronauts who walked on the moon reported that the surface is a dark gray color, much like a sidewalk. I really don’t want to think of myself as a boring, dark hunk of rock hanging around in space, but it is a fitting description of a person before salvation.

Just as the moon has no ability to radiate light, it can only reflect the radiance of the sun, we too have no ability to radiate light, we can only reflect the radiance of the Son.

In the Old Testament, when Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the stone tablets, his face shone so brightly from his exchange with Jehovah, the Israelites were afraid to go near him.

When Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tablets of the covenant law in his hands, he was not aware that his face was radiant because he had spoken with the Lord (Exodus 34:39 NKJV).

How much more should we be reflecting His light? We have the incredible privilege of having His Holy Spirit within us. When we enter a room, He enters with us.  Our presence should be immediately noticed by the light we reflect from His radiance.

In Him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it (1 John 4-5 NIV).

Emulate the moon for Christ. Reflect His radiance for all to see.
