Semi-Truck of Destruction

Semi-Truck of Destruction

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him
(Romans 8:28 NIV)

A semi-truck of destruction came roaring through my life, leaving behind a trail of damage, disillusionment and hurt. Then, to compound the problem, smaller trucks arrived at the truck stop with counsel, advise and prayer, who then proceeded to reverse over me as they left. Their subsequent behavior was almost as bad as the original destructive vehicle.

The result was that I headed for the hills, not wanting to be around anyone, not wanting to go to church (those small trucks could be lurking behind the pews) and certainly not wanting anyone to give me counsel. And there God met me, not with fire and cloud like Moses on his mountain, but with the gentleness of a caring shepherd coming to bind up His wounded sheep.

I was able to pour out my pain, anger, and bitterness and my questions, yes, my questions. God is a big God; He can handle it. He knows what we are feeling anyway, so why not be honest with Him? He is never angry with an honest questioner – he answered Job, He answered Habakkuk, and many others in the Bible, not always in the way they expected, but He answered.

The result was He took me into a new depth in my walk with Him. I can honestly say today I am grateful for that semi-truck because without it I would not have entered this new phase of maturity in my Christian life. Every ounce of pain and disillusionment was worth it, because God as He always does, brought good, amazing good, out of it.

I also came to the realization that my semi-truck was not evil or unkind. It did not mean harm to me, it did not purposely set out to run me down, it was just thoughtless and selfish and didn’t stop to think how its actions were damaging another human being.

If you have had a semi-truck roll through your life, and you are still on the ground bleeding, take heart the Great Healer (Jehovah Rapha) will come to you. He will knit your bones, bind up your wounds, and heal your bruises. And one day, not overnight, but one day, you will be thankful for your semi-truck.

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds (Psalm 147:3 NKJV)
