Are You an Amos?

Are You an Amos?

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made
(Psalm 139:14 NV)

Are you different? Do you speak differently, think differently, write differently? You don’t parrot worn out Christian phrases? Do you sometimes feel like an albatross that has accidentally wandered into church with big flappy wings and large feet? Do people look at you as though you were an alien that somehow got dropped into the assembly?

No worries – you have a soul mate in a fig-picker from Tekoa. Amos was a prophet called by God to speak to Israel. He said himself that he wasn’t trained and had no credentials to offer. Amos spoke differently, acted differently, and probably smelled differently (after all he was a sheep herder) - in other words, Amos was himself.

“Amos answered Amaziah, “I was neither a prophet nor the son of a prophet, but I was a shepherd, and I also took care of sycamore-fig trees” (Amos 7:14 NIV)

But God used him … mightily. God doesn’t make cookie cutter Christians. Every one of us is unique. And He has a plan for each of us. So, don’t quit – don’t hide - keep on being you – for all you know, someone’s eternal destiny may be counting on it.
