The Advantage of Height

The Advantage of Height

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, and My ways are not your ways, says the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways
and My thoughts than your thoughts”
(Isaiah 55:8-9 NKJV)

I had spent most of the day hurling a ball across the garden for four small dogs to retrieve. The plan was to get them tired so the humans could have a peaceful afternoon while the dogs recovered from their exertions. The dogs would bounce happily after the ball, but sometimes they couldn’t find it in the high grass. They would search around, tails frantically wagging, trying to recover it. Eventually, they would give up and expectantly look to me for help. They knew I would find it for them because I had an advantage over them—height.

Being taller, I had a wider perspective and that got me thinking. So often we do what the dogs do—go frantically searching for the answer to the problem when what we really need is Someone taller and situated higher than us, who can see the whole aspect of the situation and give us the solution from His vantage point.

It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in (Isaiah 40:22 NKJV).

Our perspective is earth bound. We can see only one frame at a time in the movie of our life. But God can see it all, from beginning to end. He wrote the script before we were born. He knows exactly what needs to be done to move us forward.

Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you, before you were born, I set you apart (Jeremiah 1:5 NIV).

When you are confused about a situation and don’t know what to do, take a step back and let Him show you it from His viewpoint. He will also show you the step you need to take to move out of the long grass and onto the path He has for you.
