His Plan for Your Life
You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book.
Every moment was laid out before a single day passed.
(Psalm 139:16 NLT)
Have you ever questioned if God has a plan for you or if you are at the mercy of time and chance? Do you sometimes wander through life feeling like you are a piece of flotsam or jetsam being tossed around on the waves, seemingly going nowhere?
(By the way, there is a difference between flotsam and jetsam. Flotsam is the goods found floating on the sea resulting from a shipwreck. Jetsam is the things cast into the sea to lighten the load from a ship in danger of being wrecked. Whatever sinks is called lagan. I hadn’t heard of lagan before writing this, but I know I don’t want to be it!)
The good news is God has a unique plan for you. It was written long before you were even born, in eternity past. And it follows if He has a plan for your life, He wants you to know it.
To find out God’s will and plan for you, there is a vital first step. You need to learn to recognize His voice. And the only way to do that is to read His Word.
And when He brings out his own sheep, He goes before them; and the sheep follow Him, for they know His voice (John 10:4 NKJV).
The next question that often comes up is “What happens if what I want is different from what He wants? How does His plan gel with mine?” When you align your will with His, He will put His desires in your heart.
Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails (Proverbs 19:21 NIV).
We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps (Proverbs 16:9 NLT).
His will is His love. People are often terrified of asking God what His will is for their life because they fear He might ask them to do something they dread. We don’t need to fear. He loves us and whatever He plans for us comes from His heart of love. He sent His precious Son to die for us, nailed to a wooden cross on a barren hillside. How can we doubt He will not do His best for us?
I know the plans I have in mind for you, declares the Lord; they are plans for peace, not disaster, to give you a future filled with hope (Jeremiah 29:11 CEB).
No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love Him (1 Corinthians 2:9 NLT).
Our goal should be to stay within the boundaries of God’s plan for us. The only way to do that is to read His Word and seek His Spirit. He is not trying to hide His plan from us. He will show you the way, step by step, if you sincerely ask Him for His plan, not yours.
The Lord will work out His plans for my life – for your faithful love, O Lord, endures forever (Psalm 138:8 NLT).
“Trust the past to God’s mercy, the present to God’s love, and the future to God’s providence” (St. Augustine).
