My Anchor Held

My Anchor Held

He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed.
They were glad when it grew calm, and He guided them to their desired haven.
(Psalm 107:29-30 NIV)

I have just come through a storm that seemed never ending. At times, it reached hurricane strength, and I wondered how I would ever hold on.

The seas have calmed now, and the waves have hushed. The waters are still choppy, the boat is still rocking, the wind is still blowing, but it is no longer at gale force. I am wet, battered, and bruised but I have come through. I can see my haven ahead, a harbor of peace and calm, secure in His love.

The best part? My little rowboat’s anchor to my heavenly Father held through it all. When the storm was raging, and the waves were pounding down, and I could barely focus from the water and wind in my face, the one thing I could see throughout it all, albeit it sometimes only dimly, was the connection to my Anchor holding tight through it all.

We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf (Hebrews 6:19-20 NIV).

I did not write this to say, “Hey look at me! I came through!” I wrote this to say, “Hey look at me! He brought me through!” And if He did it for me, He will do it for you. So if you are currently adrift in a stormy sea and your boat is rocking wildly, please don’t quit, please don’t give up. He will come to you. He may even come to you walking on the water.
