Sad Saturday
And Jesus cried out with a loud voice, and breathed His last.
(Mark 15:37 NKJV)
But he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen!”
(Mark 16:6 NIV)
Is it Saturday for you—the time after the event that took your feet out from under you, leaving you lying bleeding on the floor, bewildered and in pain?
Remember after Good Friday came Saturday. The disciples had to face a dark terrifying time. Their hopes and dreams had died on a wooden cross on a barren hill the day before. Now they faced Saturday, with nothing but sorrow and disappointment filling their hearts. They must have wandered around numb, in shock and disbelief. What they did not know was that resurrection Sunday was on its way.
Saturday can be the longest, toughest day to face. After your hopes and dreams have crashed and burned, after the dreaded medical diagnosis, after the confirmation of barrenness, after the betrayal by a spouse, after the abandonment by a friend, after the death of a loved one, comes the dark night of the soul—the somber walk of pain, confusion, and bewilderment. We all experience a Saturday at some point in our lives, and it may feel like it is dragging on with seemingly no end in sight.
But unlike the disciples on that Saturday, we know for sure that after Good Friday and sad Saturday came resurrection Sunday. While it may seem that Saturday will never end, it will.
Don’t give up, keep walking, clinging to His Hand and His Word. I promise you resurrection Sunday is coming!
